Summary: You Can't Love Someone Into Changing

Summary: You Can't Love Someone Into Changing

You think:

If I just:

  • Love them enough
  • Am patient enough
  • Show them enough
  • Support them enough

They'll change.

They won't.

The Hard Truth

People change:

When they want to.

Not:

When you want them to.

Your love:

Can't force:

Their growth.

What Actually Happens

You:

  • Give more
  • Love harder
  • Wait longer
  • Hope desperately

They:

  • Stay the same
  • Take advantage
  • Make promises
  • Don't follow through

You exhaust yourself:

Trying to love:

Someone into being:

Who they're not.

When People Actually Change

Not:

Because you loved them.

But:

Because they:

  • Hit rock bottom
  • Lost something important
  • Decided for themselves
  • Were ready

Change is:

Internal.

Not:

Motivated by:

Your love.

What to Do Instead

Love them:

As they are.

Or:

Leave.

Don't stay:

Hoping:

They'll become:

Someone different.

That's not love.

That's:

Loving their potential.

And potential:

Isn't a person.

About 4Angles: You can't love someone into changing—people change when they're ready, not when you need them to. Accept them as-is or leave.
