Summary: You Can't Fix People

Summary: You Can't Fix People

You can't fix:

The broken person.

The emotionally unavailable person.

The narcissist.

The person who isn't ready.

You can't.

Why We Try

Because:

We think:

If we just:

  • Love them enough
  • Show them enough
  • Be patient enough
  • Support them enough

They'll heal.

They won't.

Not from you.

The Truth

People heal:

When they decide to.

Not:

When you want them to.

You can:

  • Be supportive
  • Encourage therapy
  • Set boundaries

But you can't:

Do the work:

For them.

What Happens When You Try

You:

  • Exhaust yourself
  • Lose yourself
  • Enable them
  • Get hurt repeatedly

They:

  • Stay the same
  • Take advantage
  • Blame you
  • Don't grow

Because:

Change:

Comes from within.

Not:

From you.

What to Do Instead

Support:

If they're actively working.

Leave:

If they're not.

You're not:

A rehabilitation center.

You're:

A person.

With needs.

And limits.

Protect them.
